The Library Corporation has spent a significant amount of time improving LS2 PAC performance over the last month and a half. The good new is, we are seeing significant performance improvements at our largest customers with the highest traffic. Why not see for yourself? Here is a link to LS2 PAC version 1.8 installed at Lincoln Public Schools in Nebraska. This district has over 50 locations and 200k titles. Their LS2 PAC is now stable and snappy under load: http://tlcweb.lps.org:8080/
And here are the release notes for LS2 PAC & Kids v1.8:
Anyone who read the first blog post would see that I was out in Omaha recently working on diagnosing some LS2 PAC performance issues that Omaha Public Schools is experiencing. I mentioned there would be more information to come and here it is:
The type of site experiencing issues is typically a large school where large classes are being directed to perform the same tasks in LS2 PAC all at the same time. In order to fix any slowness occurring at peak school times, the LS2 PAC team has recently replicated Omaha public schools exact L.S. database and LS2 PAC configurations and environment here at TLC headquarters. We have also written load test scripts to simulate up to a few thousand students logging on concurrently and writing reviews and/or tagging (among other things). We expect, that by running Yourkit Java Profiler on the Emulated Omaha LS2 PAC server while the system is under simulated load, we will be able to diagnose and fix the troublesome calls in the application. This work will be happening this week and I am very eager to get this problem fixed. There will be more to come on this as we begin diagnosis and repair.
I was playing around with LS2 PAC the other day, as I often do (being that I am the product owner)… and I was trying to figure out how to pass advanced searches into the application via URL. Well, to my joy, I found success and I wanted to share this tip with you as it’s not exactly a documented feature.
This post contains a video tutorial along with a link to the example files I used. Hint: You will most likely want to view this tutorial full screened.
This tip is useful for creating advanced canned searches for your users in order to highlight specific areas of your collection. Enjoy!
